Working in a larger corporation fascinated her, mostly as a way of understanding and reshaping the world. At the same time, she became captivated by Zion, the emerald city she had seen advertised since childhood, a place that felt like a faraway dream. 

 

Even as that fascination grew, her parents continued to warn her against pursuing such a path. Their view of anyone doing manual labor to preserve a future, was pitiful, why waste your time building something when it was there for you at birth? Still, Artemis refused to let their fears or opinions decide her future. What finally pushed her to act was not Zion itself, but a Variant Labs advertisement that reached all the way to Tundra. There was something different about it, and full of the kind of ambition she had been desperately searching for.

 

She applied almost immediately, and with her strong résumé, academic background, and classification credentials, she stood out right away. It did not take long for Variant Labs to recognize her potential, and she was quickly brought on in a personal assistant position. Even though Adrian may not take her advice, she’s always there to remind him why he hired her.

 

Though her parents still warned her even after she accepted the position, Artemis chose to build her life on her own terms.
