THE VOICE OF ZION

Morton Lakesway is one of the most recognizable voices in Zion’s cultural history, a veteran performer with a long and reputable portfolio that carried on for miles.

For years, he was known across the city and beyond as “The Voice of Zion,” an almost deity like nickname, earned through decades of work in advertisements, public campaigns, radio spots, film narration, stage productions, and state-backed media. His voice, a kind of cartoony and almost generic radio sound, people instantly recognized no matter where they were located.

Over the years, Morton became attached to some of the most visible media in Zion’s history, lending his voice to countless campaigns and even working alongside President Zion’s public machine, and the endlessly marketable mascot John Zion. His delivery became part of the city’s identity, to the point where entire generations grew up hearing him on screens, radios, and theater stages without always realizing just how much of Zion’s sound belonged to him.

But Morton was never just a commercial voice. Before and during his rise in broadcast work, he built a serious career as a theater man, performing in some of Zion’s best-known musicals and stage productions. He had a reputation for showmanship and the dramatic charisma that infected those around him.

Among the productions most associated with his name were: Emerald Avenue, The Bells of North Zion, The Green Room Revue, and the particularly famous state-sponsored musical: John Zion’s Green Garden, a spectacle that turned Zion propaganda into grand theatrical entertainment. Morton moved easily between stage and screen, which is part of what made him such a valuable public figure. He was not just a voice actor in the narrow sense, but a full multi-talented performing artist.

By the time Adrian James Carter II brought him into Variant Labs, Morton’s career had cooled from its peak, becoming more *washed up.* He was still respected, but no longer remembered, or standing at the center of Zion’s media world the way he once had. To Adrian, though, that hardly mattered.

Adrian had grown up hearing Morton’s work and had been a genuine fan since childhood, making the chance to hire him feel less like a business move and more like pulling a legend into his own orbit. At Variant Labs, Morton was brought on as head of marketing, where his old road in performance, and public persuasion gave the laboratory a voice it could never have built on its own. Even in a later chapter of his career, Morton still knows how to sell absolute bullshit like a spectacle better than almost anyone alive. That gift, and the long history behind it, made him a perfect fit for a place like Variant Labs.
